Quarters are based on the Spanish 8 Reale Dollar, which was often cut up into pieces called "bits." Two bits was a quarter! The U.S. Mint struck its first quarter in 1796, and all
quarters were struck in 90% silver up through 1964. Our current Washington Quarter was first minted in 1932. Collecting Washington Quarters is fun, because you can get a lot right out of circulation. You can get the hard
