The Casa de Moneda, the Mexico City Mint, is the oldest continuously operating mint in the western hemisphere. They've been striking gold coins and silver coins since the 1,500s. Some of the first
coins—Gold Escudos and Silver 8 Reales—were U.S. legal tender all the way up to 1857. Today, the mint strikes Mint State Gold Libertads, Proof Gold Libertads, Mint State Silver Libertads and Proof Silver
Libertads. Gold Libertads are one Troy ounce of 99.9% gold and Silver Libertads are one Troy ounce of 99.9% silver.
