Commemorative Coins
The 1892 Columbian Half Dollar was the first United States Commemorative coin. Since then gold commemorative and silver commemorative coins have been struck by the U.S. Mint to honor historic
events and to raise money for special projects. Early gold commemorative and silver commemorative coins were struck up to the mid 1950s. Modern commemoratives are those struck from 1986 to the present.
