The last U.S. Gold Double Eagle struck for circulation is the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle minted between 1907 and 1933. It's the most beautiful U.S. gold coin ever struck, showing Miss Liberty on the obverse
and an eagle in flight on the reverse. President Theodore Roosevelt was thrilled when he saw it, and rushed it into production. Most were melted in the gold recall of 1933, but some survived. Today $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagles
are the goal of serious gold collectors.
