The 1908 $2.50 Gold Indian coin was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt. Famed sculptor Bella Pratt created an incuse Quarter Eagle gold piece—the design is sunk into the surface rather than raised above
it. His $2.50 Gold Indian is reminiscent of gold coins struck by the Greeks and Romans. This is the last gold quarter eagle minted for circulation by the U.S. Mint. Most were melted in the 1933 gold recall, but some are
still available for your collection.
